Neighbouring Development

23 October 2023

Further to previous notices, I am pleased to update that while building has been behind schedule overall, the four story building has now “topped out” with the roof being put in place. I am also pleased to share that the overall structure has less impact on The Siam as initially thought. Ultimately the structure will house a museum and garden and we are considering accepting their invitation to have direct access from our property.

In the meantime, to be clear and honest there is obviously some works still ongoing to finish the building. Occasionally we experience minimal noise during daytime hours. We have had only a few comments from guests in the past month with many saying it is nothing really beyond normal “city noise”.

Please do feel free to contact us for more specific information should anyone have concerns regarding the above. However despite this notice, I am confident that guests will not impacted in any significant way during their time at The Siam.

Sincerely,

I am pleased to provide this latest update and share that the initial piling work has been completed with minimal disturbance to the hotel. Indeed, as of early May, with light construction works ongoing, there has been little to no impact on any area of The Siam. In fact many guests have commented that they have not noticed anything beyond normal “city noise”.

Of course, we will continue to keep sharing updates. However, it seems the worst of initial impact is behind us as the projects heads towards completion in September/ October 2023.

Further to the notice issued earlier before works commenced, I am pleased to share this latest update.

With full piling works underway, contrary to our initial concerns,  it appears as though there is minimal impact on The Siam and overall operations. The works are rather intermittent throughout the daytime only, and certainly not constant. In many ways, the noise would be similar impact on guest experience as the hectic tourist boat traffic experienced further down the river.

With only the closest villas closed (ultimately as a precaution), we have had almost no issues with any other accommodation. The only area that is obviously impacted is our riverside pool. Even then, with perfect sunbathing conditions and high occupancy at the hotel, we have had most sun loungers occupied daily. As of today, we have yet to receive one negative comment.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will update as necessary. However we are confident that guests will enjoy an amazing experience at The Siam should they wish to proceed with their plans here.

I remain available and happy to be contacted directly for further clarification or assistance.

Sincerely,

We feel it necessary to bring to your attention certain developments that will likely impact the hotel in the near future.
The owning company of the vacant land adjacent to the hotel has advised their intent to immediately commence construction of a three story building.

Starting with light piling works in March, their timeline indicates the building will be completed within six months by September 2023. As this building work is on the riverside land adjacent to our pool villas, we will closely monitor the initial works and take further action and update notices if required. We are also in discussions with the construction company and have their support to work with us on a daily basis to work around higher occupancy or inhouse guest schedules as much as possible. However it is inevitable that there will be some level of impact at times.

I would highlight that during 2018-2021 we endured construction of an eight story hospital building adjacent to the hotel with a year of heavy piling and basement level excavation works with limited impact on guests and indeed hotel operations. In comparison, we do not anticipate any significant impact on our guest experience overall.

I welcome you to contact us directly to discuss this situation in more detail and we will honestly and openly share what information or guidance we have. Rest assured we will take all measures necessary to ensure our guests have a wonderful experience with us overall and will be in the safest of hands with The Siam family.

Sincerely,

Nick Downing
